i'm all checked into the omni hotel for the opera america conference tomorrow. after what felt like forever to get here. the flight itself is not long at 2 hours, 40 minutes, but tack on a 35-40 minute taxi cab ride and getting slightly car-sick with all the stop and go motions of a car in rush hour and it does feel like an eternity.
nevertheless, glad to be here, albeit looking a little worse for wear, thanks to sitting in that recirculated cabin air. however am i'm going to fare with my europe trip next week, as the travel time is 3 times longer? and that's not including the 9 hour time change. ack. the joys of travelling. i'm complaining. i digress.

once i got to my room, i perked up. i so enjoy the little things offered in a hotel. the omni located in the bunker hill district of downtown LA has nicely appointed rooms.

i was delighted to find i have a bathtub and a separate shower in the bathroom. there were a ridiculous amount of towels hanging in the bathroom: 4 big bath towels, 2 medium towels, 3 hand/face towels. i'm just one teeny tiny person in one room. there's no way i'm going to go through all those towels in my 5 day stay.
there's a fully stocked mini-bar fridge of course. although wasted on me cuz i don't drink.

and damn, there's a welcome tray with items that one can purchase to make your stay more enjoyable. items that kinda made me squeal cuz me likely those items, but also because there's no way i'm going to splurge on the over-priced although "it would make me feel so much better after a flight" items such as the thymes eucalyptus bath salts, olivia pomegranate lip balm or deserving thyme's lavendar pillow spray.
i so had to resist the urge of ripping into a dean & deluca cookies and cream chocolate bar. or the dean & deluca gummy bears. *sigh* dean and deluca. i miss new york.
after unpacking it was time to get some grub. i've been to LA several times before but am not too familiar with the downtown area, so i hit up the california pizza kitchen across the street. mmmmm. four cheese ravioli (imported asiago, mascarpone, ricotta and parmesan) sauteed in a creamy pomodoro sauce with fresh basil. you hit the spot.
another win? there's an upscale japanese convenience store called famima, located just underneath the hotel that closes at 2am. stocked up on munchies and drinks.
all those munchies will come in handy as i will be burning the midnight candle, prepping for my presentation tomorrow morning. sleep will have to wait just a little bit longer.
